In an era of emerging knowledge societies and global competition, management institutions need to embrace new technologies and exploit ways for effectively sharing and managing their knowledge resources. Development of digital institutional repositories and learning object repositories encourage the capturing of intellectual capital and teaching and learning resources. In the Indian context, this would imply acceptance and usage of information technology in teaching and learning, the readiness to share with others, if digital repositories are to be developed for sharing of knowledge. The paper presents an exploratory study conducted among the faculty in a management institute in India on the usage of digital teaching resources, sharing of the digital teaching resources and the need for a digital repository.

This is an era of emerging knowledge societies and global competition. Management education and management institutes play a significant role in the development of the society by equipping people with required skills and knowledge, which is the need of the hour.

Prominent management institutions and a significant number of small business schools are being set up. With the growing number of students, in most of these institutions, a single subject is handled by different faculty and often the shortage of experienced faculty and domain experts is felt. Faculty are from different academic backgrounds and experiences. The knowledgeable and experienced faculty can share their teaching material, tools and experiences with the newer faculty and enrich the level of teaching for the students. Knowledge sharing is necessary to enable the faculty to update their knowledge and methods of teaching.

Moreover, management is an interdisciplinary approach where there is no watertight demarcation amongst the domains. In this situation, the knowledge of one domain can be applied to other domain, if knowledge sharing is facilitated.
