When two young Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google
Inc. on September 7, 1998, they had only four computers and an investor's
bet of $100,000, but an indomitable belief that Internet search engine
could revolutionize the world.
True to their belief, within a decade, Google has turned into a gigantic
computer network of nearly 20,000 employees, with annual revenue of approximately $17 bn
and profits of nearly $5 bn to define technology, media and the marketing space across
the globe. Interestingly, according to the survey conducted by Millward Brown's
BrandZ index, Google, for the second year in a row, has topped the list of the world's
most powerful brands. Currently, it rules around 70% of the search engine business and
40% of online advertising. |
