Indian insurance industry, to keep pace with the growing market, is looking for expertise in the employees. In this situation, training and educational needs of the employees become even more critical. The author analyzes the current scenario with an eye on future need of training in the industry.

Many of the management ideas have been borrowed from military services after World War II. One of the concepts is training. In army life, training assumes a lot of importance since it is only through systematic and rigorous training that the skills, expertise, discipline, attitudes and all other positive qualities are inculcated in a new recruit over a period of time. Thereafter, throughout the career, through regular practice and periodic exercises, these skills and expertise are further honed and refined.

Thus, the soldiers always maintain a fighting fit form and are never allowed to relax and resort to an easy way of life. Many successful and progressive companies have gained considerably by following this philosophy of work.

The chief motivating factor in army is the commitment for victory as defeat means certain death or disgrace which is not acceptable at national level. Therefore, every soldier is prepared and committed to the supreme sacrifice and deems it an honor to fight.
