Emotional Intelligence (EI) determines our potential for learning practical skills based on self-awareness, motivation, self-regulation, empathy and adaptiveness in relationships. Our Emotional Competence (EC) shows how much of potential we have translated into on-the-job capabilities. This article talks about EI and EC and throws light on ways to improve them both on individual and group levels in organizations.

The hardest ever thing in the whole world is understanding emotions but it's worth doing.

Indian society has been experiencing stiff cut - throat competition from various countries in striving to catch up with the global developments in the context of a rapidly changing modern world. The global values of democracy in the political arena, liberalization and open market in the economic sector, cosmopolitanism and pluralism in the cultural context in the general macro-social terms, coupled with the values of autonomy, individuality and competition at the micro level, all have seeped into every nook and corner of the Indian society, which seriously calls for a paradigm shift in the understanding of the structure and functioning of the Indian society.

The tentacles of globalization have had a strong hold over the Indian society primarily on economic lines—by way of huge capital investment, open market, liberalization and privatization. Knowledge industry proves to be the main investment segment specifically earmarked as a potent source of demand and supply in the labor market. The prevalence of a huge and highly skilled labor force suiting the needs of the local and global market further accentuates the heavy capital investment in the field.
