Shriram Life Insurance Company Limited is a 74:26 joint venture between the Chennai-based Shriram Group and the South African insurance major Sanlam Group. It has its headquarters in Hyderabad. The company commenced its operations in February 2006 with a capital base of Rs. 125 cr and set a target of achieving a premium income of Rs. 110 cr during the first year of its operation.

 
 
 

Incorporated in 1974, the Group is among the leading corporate houses in Southern India and a major player in the Indian financial services sector. The Group's main line of activities in financial services include chit fund, truck financing, consumer durable financing, stock broking, insurance broking and life insurance.

The Group's core business is its Rs. 6,000 cr truck finance empire with Rs. 360 cr net worth. The group has three truck finance companies namely Shriram Investments Limited, Shriram Transport Finance Company Limited and Shriram City Union Finance Limited. It also has a registered Non-Banking Finance Company (NBFC), named Shriram Overseas Finance Limited which has its corporate office in New Delhi. In addition to this, it has strategic alliances with financial majors namely Citicorp, UTI Bank and ChrysCapital.

It has a customer base of 30 lakhs which include chit subscribers and investors. It operates through a network of 630 offices situated all over the country. It has the largest agency force in the private sector consisting of more than 75,000 dedicated agents. It is the largest player in truck financing and chit funds in the Indian subcontinent. It has an annual turnover of Rs. 6,000 cr ($1.3 bn), and has a significant presence in insurance consultancy, consumer durable finance and stock broking businesses.
