The telemetry process involves continuous grouping of measurements (such as pressure, speed and temperature) into a format that can be transmitted as a single data stream. The telemetry system is independent of the location and time of measurement, as well as skill of the workers at the site of measurement. Once received, the data stream is separated into the original measurement's components for analysis. Telemetry is used for all sorts of different and diverse applications—from the Apollo missions to Formula 1 motor racing. It is essentially an automated machine-to-machine communication.

Telemetry is a Latin word, which is a combination of two words namely; `Tele' means at some distance and `Metry' means measurements i.e., the measurements at some distance [2]. Telemetry is basically the sensing and measuring of information at some remote location and then transmitting that information to a central or host location [2]. There, it can be monitored and used to control a process at the remote site. The basic concept of telemetry has been in existence for centuries. Various transmission modes or methods of transmitting data from one site to another have been used.

Data radio provides a wireless method for transmitting the information. The telemetry system is independent of the location and time of measurement, as well as skill of the workers at the site of measurement. The telemetry system is a continuous system of monitoring any ongoing process or process control. Telemetry is a kind of process automation and control from industry point of view.
