Abstract

The paper reviews Unbalanced Magnetic Pull (UMP) as a result of various faults in three-phase squirrel cage induction motor. The main factors like saturation, slot harmonics and skewing of rotor are also considered to analyze UMP. The paper also gives information about the effects of various constraints of UMP and discusses its relation with UMP.

Description

Induction motor is a horse power in our industries. So research is continuously going on to enhance its performance and to decrease its cost of maintenance as well as its down time. Induction motor issues can be grouped into stator issues and rotor issues. Rotor issues incorporate bearing displacement, rotor broken bar, rotor body defect, bearing misalignment, rotor misalignment, bearing loss of oil and nonuniform temperature distribution. Stator issues incorporate inter turn short circuit fault, insulation destruction, dead loss of electrical connection, vibration of protecting frame and stator earth fault. Unbalanced Magnetic Pull (UMP) is an aftereffect of a significant number of rotor shortcomings like bearing issue, rotor broken blame, rotor misalignment (eccentricity and bearing misalignment (Singh and Ahmed, 2003). The connection between various stresses and factors affects the rotor life and adds to premature breakdown (Bonnett and Soukup, 1986).
