The IUP Journal of Management Research

Focus

There seems to be an endless debate between management think tanks and practitioners on how to impress the end customers in the changing times by overcoming challenges resulting from global competition. A strategic makeover of firms is found to be necessary as argued by many scholars by citing the fact that the new generation of customers is looking for something new and valuable that gives them unanticipated benefits with less consumption of resources. This stands valid in terms of introducing many new practices on various fronts of business with the help of technology that bridges the gap between industry and customers. Hence, it becomes inevitable to explore the new avenues of investment for achieving business excellence by keeping pace with the changing trends in the market at various levels.

The fact that the internet is providing a plethora of services in terms of increasing the bandwidth of business operations leading to enhanced portfolio of products and amalgamation of cross-sections of population into the business ambit of firm enables us to understand that more space is left for future innovation in the direction. The scale and pace of financial products trading through online channel has been examined in the first paper, Online Channel Adoption Intent of Customers for Financial Products, by V Uma Maheswari and Uma Chandrasekaran. The conceptual model propounded in this paper makes it clear that there is some scope for synchronizing online and offline channels for better usage and benefit of customers.

It is a well-noted fact that cricket is a religion in India that unites diverse segments of population for decades, yet not much research has been done on the sport from a commercial angle. As such, the changing trends in the sport in the light of economic globalization have not been widely studied. Precisely, the advent of Indian Premier League experiment with Twenty-20 matches has become a big hit as proved by the pouring corporate endorsements and franchises to the team players. The rapid transformation of sport from Test to T20 format has signaled for the corporatization of the sport leading to generation of huge resources around cricket. The second paper, Is the Onslaught of T20 Cricket Influencing How Test Cricket Is Played? A Formative Assessment, by Subhasis Ray, discusses at length the transformation of the sport with the help of statistical analysis much to the enlightenment of the readers.

This issue also includes a research note, A Brief Note on the Role of Ethical Leadership in Higher Education Institutions for Sustainability, by Indu Rao, that discusses leadership, which is found to be the much talked about topic of contemporary times, especially for top level management reforms. The note draws a comprehensive picture of education scenario from the new perspective. The conceptual model proposed here makes an attempt to integrate the higher education institutions performance in terms of achieving sustainability with focus on ethical leadership issues.

Online Channel Adoption Intent of Customers for Financial Products
V Uma Maheswari and Uma Chandrasekaran

There is an inextricable link between money market and foreign exchange (forex) The purpose of the study is to develop a comprehensive model on consumers acceptance of online channel for financial products by integrating variables from existing models and by adding relevant new variables. A survey was conducted to collect data from respondents in India, aged 25 years and above, employed/ self-employed, who have bought at least one financial product online and have at least one insurance product online or offline. The conceptual model was tested through PLS-SEM, and it was inferred from the analysis that the marketers can play a robust role in making the online channel complementary to the offline channel by maintaining the website quality through information and system quality, which in turn will have a favorable influence over behavioral intention towards online channel via the consumers perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived benefits.

Is the Onslaught of T20 Cricket Influencing How Test Cricket Is Played? A Formative Assessment
Subhasis Ray

The oldest and longest format of cricket, i.e., Test cricket, has been played since 1877; the 50-over One Day International (ODI) format has been in existence since 1971. The smallest and youngest format, i.e., Twenty Twenty International (T20I) started only in 2005. But mass acceptance of the shortest version of cricket was epitomized by the success of the franchise-based Indian Premier League (IPL) that started in 2008. Buoyed by the success of IPL, many other countries followed suit. Even a 10-over format (T10 league) got ICCs approval in 2018. The shorter the game, the less is the time commitment from spectators and even more is the competition. These, in turn, help penetrate new countries and ensure more thrill. These lead to more eyeballs in terms of TV, digital media and ground spectators, which ensure more money being poured in. The lure of big money made cricketers, including the budding ones, embrace T20 format. Even established cricketers are retiring from Tests to stretch their T20 career. The present work uses a metametrics framework for conducting formative assessment of the influence of 20- over cricket match on Test cricket. Various advanced statistical analyses were conducted on the secondary data available at www.cricinfo.com between April 1, 2000 and March 31, 2016. The study revealed a number of startling facts quite contrary to common perception, e.g., Test matches have become more decisive; they yield higher run rate; and the matches are getting over faster post IPL. Tests are showing positive trends with respect to batting contribution of tailenders and percentage score in boundaries which are encouraging from a viewers point. There is a negative trend for runs scored per wicket, and cricketers may need to place more value on their prized wickets.

A Brief Note on the Role of Ethical Leadership in Higher Education Institutions for Sustainability
Indu Rao

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play a vital role in the sustainable development of a country. The efficiency of the HEIs is related to three types of sustainability, i.e., social, environment and economic. Given a large and complex network of educational institutions in India, it is believed that HEIs contribute majorly to the overall development of the country through education of its people. However, there are several challenges to the efficient working of educational institutions.
