The first paper, "Alternative Process Model for Optimization of Dynamic Cellular Facility Layout" by Kamal Deep, addresses a Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) for the DCFLP, leading to effective utilization of resources, minimum throughput time, and reduction in material handling considering alternative process routes for part types. The proposed model objectively allocates resources to manufacturing cells evolving an optimal facility layout for multi-period dynamic production. The NP-hard (Non-Deterministic Polynomial-Time Hardness) QAP model for the DCFLP is difficult to solve using the conventional method of optimization in a reasonable time span. The author has developed a Genetic Simulated Annealing (GSA) algorithm-based heuristic approach to develop and explore the four dimensional search space (Part-Machine-Worker-Location) of DCFLP in a reasonable time. The algorithm is capable enough to deal with any configuration of layout type with ease in grid pattern (Horizontal line, Vertical columns, U-Shape Layout and Circular Shape Layout) evolving an optimal cellular facility layout in multi-period dynamic production. The results compared metaheuristics (Genetic Algorithm (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA) and GSA) for the randomly generated instances, which substantiates the efficacy of the proposed model.

The second paper, "Consumers' Awareness and Inclination Towards Eco-Friendly Cars with Reference to Sustainable Development" is authored by Chiranjib Mitra and S Roychowdhury. The authors are of the view that with global warming and health concerns on the rise because of vehicular pollution, it is important to adopt vehicles that are eco-friendly. They have emphasized that holistic transition from conventional fuel cars to electric cars is crucial for implementing the concept of sustainable development. The study seeks to analyze the factors that influence the consumer's choice of cars, their awareness level, perception towards eco-friendly cars and also the interrelationship among the factors and extent of dependability on each other. It concentrates on understanding the association of several demographic characteristics of the respondents with various attributes of environment-friendly cars and also with its acceptability in the market.

The third paper, "Informational Integration, Relational Integration and Flexibility of LSPs in Transition Economies: Case of Vietnam" by Huu Tuyen Duong and Gilles Pache, discusses the Logistics Service Providers (LSPs), who play an important role in the national and global supply chain by contributing to the promotion and development of export economies, including Vietnam. The authors' case on Vietnamese logistics firms highlights that they are subject to very strong competition from foreign ones, which requires LSPs to constantly improve and enhance their competitiveness. To that end, LSPs have evolved from basic service providers such as freight transportation to integrated services to meet all customer needs. The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the relationship between the 'capabilities to integrate factors of the LSP's resources' and the 'flexibility of the LSP' in the context of the supply chain integration. The analysis of their results, obtained from data based on inputs of 151 managers of Vietnamese LSPs, shows that there is a positive impact of informational integration capability and relational integration capability on LSP's flexibility in providing services to customers.

Alternative Process Model for Optimization of Dynamic Cellular Facility Layout
Kamal Deep

This paper addresses a Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) model for the Dynamic Cellular Facility Layout Problem (DCFLP) that leads to effective utilization of resources, minimum throughput time, and reduction in material handling, considering alternative process routes for part types. The proposed model objectively allocates resources to manufacturing cells, evolving an optimal facility layout for multi-period dynamic production. The NP-hard (Non-Deterministic Polynomial-Time Hardness) QAP model for the DCFLP is difficult to solve using the conventional method of optimization in a reasonable time span. A Genetic Simulated Annealing (GSA) algorithm -based heuristic approach is developed to explore the four-dimensional search space (Machines-Parts-Workers-Location) of DCFLP in a reasonable time. The algorithm is capable enough to deal with any configuration of layout type with ease in grid pattern (Horizontal line, Vertical columns, U-Shape Layout and Circular Shape Layout), evolving an optimal cellular facility layout in multi- period dynamic production. The comparative results of metaheuristics (Genetic Algorithm (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA) and GSA) for the randomly generated instances substantiate the efficacy of the proposed model.
