The importance of education for individual, social and national development cannot be overemphasized; as a result, availability and access to educational opportunities have to be prioritized. Today, education could be delivered to many well-intended seekers through the assistance and support of modern technologies, otherwise called Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The study found that ICTs have a significant role to play in mitigating the challenges faced in the northern part of Nigeria. Most of the respondents (90.1%) agreed that ICTs are veritable tools in reaching many people and learners, and it was also found that the gender of the learner/student does determine his/her chances of getting education in the north.
According to Brown (2020), Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs)
permeates all aspects of life, providing newer, better and quicker ways for people to
interact, network, seek help, gain access to information and learn. With proper access
to education for all, especially through ICT intervention, life could be made not just
promising but also successful. Joshi et al. (2013) opined that ICT has contributed
immensely to social and economic improvements, such as higher employment and
productivity and increasing access to a higher quality of life.
Asian Development Bank (2010) reported that over the past decade, ICT has
helped create the most rapidly growing industry sectors, driven efficiency in government
and business operations, and developed the essential building blocks to a knowledgebased
economy for many countries.
