In the paper, "Modified
LBP-Based Background Modeling for Video Object Detection", by Subhabrata Acharya and Pradipta Kumar Nanda, a modified LBP method has been used to model the complex background and accurately differentiate foreground from background. Winding deformation in a transformer is a common problem, especially when movement occurs like in transportation. To monitor the transformer condition, Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) technique is quite powerful. In the paper, "Frequency Response Analysis-A Condition Monitoring Tool for Transformer Winding: A Review", by Mayur V Gojiya and Ketan P Badgujar, FRA techniques are reviewed. Different ways of interpretation of frequency response measurements are presented.
In the operation of power system, congestion is to be avoided for smooth power transfer between various parts. Various methods are followed to manage congestion. In the paper, "Congestion Management Methods in Deregulated Electricity Markets", by Palash Jain and Vetle Huse Syversen, different market-based methods like auctioning, market splitting, counter trading, redispatching, demand response, zonal and nodal pricing are compared.
Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is a FACTS device used for reactive power compensation in the transmission lines. UPFC can influence the power system dynamic behavior. The paper, "The Impact of UPFC on Operation of Distance Relay", by Gyanender Kumar and Ashish Kumar, observes that the operation of UPFC can influence the operation of a protection relay. The authors have studied a distance relay whose operation depends on fault resistance, among other things, and concluded that the trip region of the distance relay increased due to UPFC.

Modified LBP-Based Background Modeling for Video Object Detection
The paper proposes a background modeling-based approach for the detection of foreground objects. Often, background has dominant textural behavior with some of the dynamic entities. In order to take care of both, the paper proposes two variants of Local Binary Pattern (LBP), LBP-A and LBP-EA, for background modeling. The histograms of the proposed variants of LBP learn the new video sequence to model the complex background and accurately differentiate the foreground from the background. The proposed model learning approaches have successfully been tested with different frames of PETS sequences and the efficacy of the proposed models has been found to be better than that of LBP-based modeling.
Frequency Response Analysis-A Condition Monitoring Tool for Transformer Winding: A Review
Frequency Response Analysis (FRA) is a proven and powerful tool for condition monitoring of transformer winding. It is the most sensitive technique to identify winding movement and checks the integrity of the transformer winding without de-tanking. Nowadays, this method is widely used. The paper discusses the failure modes of transformer, philosophy of FRA, terminal connections, different ways of interpretation of results and online FRA.
Congestion Management Methods in Deregulated Electricity Markets
Congestion is a limitation in the transmission or a network when certain constraints are violated, resulting in inability to deliver power supply to the load at low cost. Congestion can lead to uncontrolled loss of load, resulting in cascading outages. Thus, the management of congestion is necessary in electrical industry and is extremely important. Different methods of congestion management are discussed in literature, and the paper focuses on economical and market-based methods. These market-based methods include auctioning, market splitting, counter trading, redispatching, demand response, and zonal and nodal pricing. The paper aims at manipulating the power flow using economical forces and substitutes to utilize the transmission parameters to the fullest. The paper also suggests that more than one method can be used within a country and/or when exchanging power between borders. It compares the congestion management technique used in different developed countries.
The Impact of UPFC on Operation of Distance Relay
Distance relays are widely used for the protection of transmission lines. The accuracy of distance relay is affected by many factors like pre-fault system conditions, fault resistance, short-circuit and remote end-a condition which is not measurable at relaying point. These FACTS devices affect the impedance measured at the relaying point, and hence the trip characteristics of the relay is affected. In this paper, the effects of the introduction of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), one of the FACTS devices, on the trip characteristics of the distance relay are studied. A comparison of ideal tripping characteristics with the UPFC-affected tripping characteristics is made and the variation of the tripping characteristics at different installation points of the UPFC is also shown.
