Abstract

In the present day multicultural settings, employers look for flexible and trainable workforce, who can innovate and improvise. They should not only have vocation related knowledge and skills but also must possess a variety of generic skills, soft skills, and cognitive skills. The book under review, therefore, follows a human potential approach to skill development. It supports the development of fully functioning individuals who will be assets to their organizations. It establishes the importance of skills in working life, describes competencies required by a global workforce, defines, lists and explains a variety of modern day employability skills, analyzes the process of skill development and illustrates the pedagogy of learning skills. To be more specific, Skills for Employability: A Handbook aims to identify and classify different employability skills generally required by Indian employers, employing agencies and the people who are engaged in planning and executing skill development in different areas of work.

Description

The book is presented in two sections. Section one is the foundational section, stating the significance of skills in working life, divided into seven chapters. It elucidates the proficiencies required by global personnel and explains the skill development process and the pedagogy of learning skills with their evaluation. In section two, a variety of employability skills like group and teamwork, decision making, leadership, problem solving, negotiation skills and many other essential skills have been described with examples. The book is written in a very simple language so that people involved in skill development at every level can easily understand and apply the principles in day-to-day training situations.
