Description

The knowledge of supply chain management is critically important in today's global competitive business environment. To be an effective player, it is critical for MBA students to have a keen understanding of global supply chain networks. Many business schools offer short-term faculty-led study-abroad programs featuring visitation of foreign companies and working on short projects with foreign students or mentors to facilitate this understanding. Factors such as cost, liability and student-anxiety among others, pose problems for many participants. This study's orientation is short-term international experiences for MBA students. The objective of this study is to recommend a course in global supply chain management that will offer MBA students sufficient exposure to and opportunities for exploring intercultural issues involved in becoming effective players in global supply chain management. It introduces students to topics on global supply chains, including the global dimensions of supply chain, logistics and global transportation management, sourcing, facility management, supply chain infrastructure, and managing global supply chains. Suggested course supplements include diverse teams, cases, videos, team projects, guest lectures, company visits, and virtual exercises with students at a foreign school. Course outline using three noted texts have been suggested.
