Focus

The first paper, ?The Effect of Supply Chain Integration on Supply Chain Performance?, by Justice Odei Som, Collins Cobblah and Hod Anyigba, investigates the impact of supply chain integration on supply chain performance. The study considers three important components of supply chain integration, viz., information integration, operational integration and relational integration, and examines their impact on the overall performance of the supply chain. The data was collected from selected supply chain and information system specialists using a questionnaire containing the constructs of interest. The findings reveal that information integration and operational integration have a positive effect on supply chain performance while relational integration has a negative effect on supply chain performance. The results suggest that within the Ghanaian context, managers should invest more in information and operational integration in order to achieve positive outcomes in their supply chain, while relational integration should be done with more caution because of its underlying elements of trust and long-term commitments.

The second paper, ?The Relationship Between Supply Chain Strategy and Supply Chain Performance: An Empirical Investigation Using Structural Equation Modeling?, by Amit Chandak, Neeraj Kumar and A Dalpati, highlights the importance of supply chain management practices in enhancing the overall performance of any organization. According to the authors, supply chain management has become one of the fastest growing and key areas in management, as a result of which it has successfully grabbed the attention of top management in respective organizations. Through implementation of appropriate supply chain management practices, firms achieve strategic competitiveness, thereby taking their performance to the next level. This paper examines the relationship between Supply Chain Strategy (SCS) and Supply Chain Performance (SCP) for automobile industry in India, especially small and medium enterprises. The association is examined through statistical methods such as Pearson correlation coefficient and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results reveal that SCS has a significant correlation with SCP. Especially, SCS parameters such as innovative strategy, customer-oriented strategy and agile supply chain strategy have a high correlation with SCP [i.e., cost performance, logistic performance and quality performance]. The SEM results also show that SCS parameters appear to be of primary importance and exhibit the importance of SCP. The result underlines the importance of SCP to the automotive industry in India.

The third paper, ?Organizational Benefits of an Effective Vendor Management Strategy?, by Shannon Cleary and Carolan McLarney, highlights the importance of an effective Vendor Management Strategy (VMS) for an organization. Corporations like Walmart and Cisco have achieved better performance through effective VMS. Specifically, they have focused on excellence in performance management, inventory management and corporate sustainability. According to the authors, an effective VMS supports a diversified vendor relationship and consistent processes, reduces costs and provides an opportunity to negotiate better terms based on volumes. This paper discusses the key components of vendor management framework suggested by Gartner report (2014) which contributes to the effective management of vendor relationship. Also, looking beyond an effective VMS, the paper focuses on how a business can deliver a differentiated, innovative, and agile VMS through the support of outsourcing data to cloud computing vendors.

Smart Supply Chain for Agile Implementation in the Manufacturing Industry
J Jawahar, S A Vasantha Kumara and S Padmanabhan

This paper attempts to study the implementation of agile methods in a manufacturing industry and provides the best recommendation for improvement of efficiencies and optimization of costs, without compromising on quality and schedules. This study has been carried out in a real-time environment with actual data from the manufacturing unit and also several interviews with the vendors involved in supplying components and sub-assemblies. An attempt has been made to promote mutual trust and engage vendors as partners in business and bring in more transparency in everyday transactions. The study carried out resulted in adopting the agile supply chain for a select set of components which had well established vendors and had a high rate of acceptance. The idea was to run this as a pilot program and then extend this to the entire set of components and assemblies required for a weekly production schedule. In view of the very high daily production rates, the idea was to facilitate transformation with a very low element of risk. This pilot is likely to run for at least three months before the second wave of change sets in.

The Journey of Change at Corus Strip Products, UK: A Theory-Based Case Review
Indranil Bose

Change does not disappear, nor does it dissipate. It has become almost a routine for most organizations in today?s world. Mere identification that an organization requires change does not suffice. Change in the simplest of forms causes repercussions. Considering the complexity of organizations, change in organizations becomes a lot more complicated. Managing change in organizations is therefore essential for successful implementation of change. There are a number of models and theories that assist the organizations in doing the same. Some of these models like force field analysis, different change management perspectives and Kurt Lewin?s three-stage model, ADKAR model of change and Kotter?s eight-step change model have been explained and applied to explain the change that Corus Strip Products (CSP), UK underwent till 2005. These models assist the management gauge the present situation of the organization (state of equilibrium) and the positive and negative forces that impact change, and gain a better understanding of the organization and the different ways in which change can be implemented in order to minimize resistance and increase the probability of successful implementation. The paper also sheds light on the importance of the role of leadership and the impact that different leadership styles have on the implementation of successful change. Effective change management leads to proper execution of the strategies formulated and implemented in the organization. This benefits not only the organization but also its various stakeholders.

Application of Random Search for Stochastic Optimization of Plastic Waste Collection Network: The Case of Belagavi City, India
Chetan V Hiremath and Patil S C

The expanded scope of supply chain has found wide applications, one of the prominent being the area of waste management. Many municipalities are adopting modern supply chain practices to manage Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), as it has become a major problem for developing countries. There are many established models for supply chain networks, but they cannot be mirrored for reverse logistics networks, as in the case of waste management. The randomness at the point of collection poses a major challenge. Inclusion of stochastic component to the existing model helps in overcoming this problem. The model is revised and applied to waste management network of Belagavi city, Karnataka, India.
