of business other than HR. In fact, some people may even express
surprise when a relationship is sought to be worked out between
costing and HR. Even some HR professionals tend to think that

STUDY NBC
Universal Inc. : Managing in Troubled Times
- - Shahnaz Hussain, Sumit Kumar
NBC
Universal (NBCU) dominated the US television scene from the 1970s till 2004 with
its highly popular serials like Friends, Cheers, Seinfeld and Frasier. However,
a decline in its viewership was noticed due to lack of variety in its programs
which resulted in it getting ranked fourth behind its competitors like FOX, ABC
and CBS networks. In December 2005, NBCU brought in major changes in its top-level
management and appointed Jeff Zucker as the CEO. It also planned to market its
new shows by adding digital technology to boost its advertising sales, to revive
its regressing revenues and to reclaim its leadership position.
