The IUP Journal of Soft Skills

Focus

In general, employers have always placed great emphasis on technical skills. However, today, employers are looking for soft skills in the prospective candidates. Undoubtedly, soft skills will make a huge difference to individual effectiveness today. The paper, "Importance of Imbibing Soft Skills in Children from a Tender Age" by Manishankar Chakraborty, provides a general road map to inculcate the desired soft skills right from childhood. The paper illustrates a case in which parents use simple tools to inculcate and develop soft skills.

In this modern age, it is increasingly evident that the skills that make an employee effective are of paramount importance. No matter how tempted the institutions are to ignore employment skills, their importance is increasing by leaps and bounds. The paper, "Transforming Learning: Develop Leaders One Child at a Time" by Ivaturi Murali Krishna, draws our attention to the core principles of the New Education Policy and shows how it attempts to impart quality education.

No leader can be effective if he or she attempts to handle all the tasks for an organization owing to its complexity and specialization. Hence, an ability and willingness to delegate certain responsibility to the subordinates is an indispensable ability of leaders today. Such efforts to effectively delegate responsibilities yields immense benefit to the organization. The last paper, "The Art and Science of Delegation" by Revathi Turaga, presents an excellent view of the art of delegation and its long-lasting impact on the organization. The paper also looks at the effective process of delegation by proposing an interesting 12C framework.

Transforming Learning: Develop Leaders One Child at a Time
Ivaturi Murali Krishna

The New Education Policy (NEP) is a complete overhaul of the teaching-learning process. Today, it is no longer a teacher-centric approach, but rather a holistic learner-centric approach with the focus on creative potential. The policy stresses on the core principles, wherein schools develop not just cognitive skills in children but also foundational skills such as critical thinking and problem solving in addition to social and emotional skills referred to as soft skills, which include cultural awareness and empathy, perseverance and grit, teamwork, leadership, communication, etc. (Yadav, 2022). The policy is both global and local in its intent and outlook. Its topmost agenda is quality education and strengthening its foundations, besides catering to the educational requirements of the most disadvantaged. Children are the future nation builders. They should be taught how to find their voice and inspire others to find theirs. Leader in Me, Teach for India and Make a Difference (MAD) are initiatives attempting to develop a holistic child and bring home the concept-'It takes a village to raise a child.'
