Self-efficacy often explains why some employees are ready to take up the challenges and find ways to triumph over them than helplessly resign to fate. Self-regulated learning and academic self-efficacy have decisive influence on career goal clarity. The paper, “A Study on the Influence of Academic Self-Efficacy and Self-Regulated Learning on Career Goal Clarity Among Postgraduate Women Students in Bengaluru” by Bharati Rao, S Anil Kumar and Mihir Dash, examines the influence of academic self-efficacy on self-regulated learning and also how self-regulated learning in turn influences academic self-efficacy.

Absence of employability skills undoubtedly has emerged as one of the most significant challenges of our times. Despite qualifying from esteemed institutions, managers rue that students are woefully short of basic skills required to find a job and succeed at the marketplace. The paper, “Employability Skills Required for Functional Areas of Management” by Rishikesh Krishnaji Nalawade, Dinkar Khashaba More and Sarang Shankar Bhola, elaborately examines the importance of skills and qualities expected to be successful in functional domains of management and suggests ways to consolidate them.

Every employee looks forward to nurturing and inspiring bosses. However, bad behavior among the bosses is not uncommon, and monstrous bosses ill-treat the employees, causing indescribable agony to the employees. A man/woman is known by the company he/she keeps. Thus, an organization may be known by the boss it has, as people often state, “People leave managers, not companies”. It is true that bosses determine the task an employee is entrusted with and promotion received or denied. Thus, a boss can make or mar an employee’s career. The paper, “Is Your Boss’ Behavior Bizarre? Voice of Subordinates” by Manisha Seth and Athar Mahmood, presents the findings of the research on the influence of bosses’ behavior on employee experiences in the organization.

Communication is the heart of any relationship, and building profitable relationships is essential to the success of all businesses. Despite the growing emphasis on the role of modern methods of communication such as email, smartphone or Internet-based social platforms, the importance of face-to-face communication cannot be ignored. The fact that face-to-face communication involving spontaneous exchange of views, ideas and connect with people has survived the onslaught of all modern communication methods demonstrates its quality, credibility and effectiveness. However, the students of digital age heavily rely on technology which acts as a stumbling block to developing the competence of face-to-face communication. The paper, “Developing Communication Competence in Students Through Face-to-Face Conversation” by Sushila Shekhawat and Virendra Singh Nirban, presents diverse strategies to develop the face-to-face communication competence among the students. It provides guidance to enhance the ability to intensely connect with the other person, which is the crux of communication.

Effective communication remains one of the prominent competences to achieve greatest success in corporate life. Ineffective communication is often a cause for several organizational ills and often stated as a major gripe. According to Aristotle, credibility (ethos), pathos (emotional connection) and logos (logic) are the essential elements for effective communication. The paper, “Effective Communication in Organizations” by Revathi Turaga, presents techniques to make communication as effective as possible in the organizational context.

The paper examines how academic self-efficacy influences self-regulated learning and also conversely about how self-regulated learning influences academic self-efficacy among postgraduate women students in Bengaluru, India. It is a step in the direction of employment preparedness as an empowering learning process, as both self-regulated learning and academic self-efficacy influence career goal clarity, which in turn affects employability. The findings of the study reveal that self-efficacy and self-regulated learning are mutually influential.

Employability Skills Required for Functional Areas of Management

Colleges and universities have many stakeholders, including students, parents, employers, public officials and community leaders, as well as the general public that has come to see higher education as both a commodity and a public good. Each stakeholder has their own views on management education, and its implication towards employability and other offerings of it. This study has attempted to understand the perceptions of students, the faculty and employers towards requirement of employability skills with respect to each functional area of management. The study revealed that there is definitely dissimilar priorities of skills and personal qualities requirement with respect to functional areas of management.

Is Your Boss’ Behavior Bizarre? Voice of Subordinates

People leave managers and not companies. A bad supervisor or boss can turn a potential dream job of an employee into a nightmare. Several studies have ascertained that the number one reason why people quit their jobs, and reason for their unhappiness at work is a bad boss or immediate supervisor. The purpose of the present study is to analyze and rank the disliked traits of bosses by Indian employees and understand the role of gender and educational background in the perception of employees’ dislike of the aforesaid traits.
