The horticulture sector in Himachal Pradesh is pivotal for the local economy, yet it faces complex challenges due to its fragmented supply chain management. The objectives of this literature review are to elucidate these challenges and opportunities, providing an extensive overview of current practices and potential advancements. The review seeks to systematically analyze the existing research on supply chain management of horticulture produce in the districts of Himachal Pradesh, namely, Shimla, Kullu, and Kinnaur. The primary goal is to identify the key challenges and opportunities that could influence policy and operational strategies in the region. A systematic search for articles, reports, and conference proceedings was conducted on online databases, including Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. The inclusion criteria targeted studies published in the last 15 years, focusing on supply chain management in the horticulture sector. A thematic analysis was employed to synthesize the data from the selected literature. The review highlights significant challenges such as inadequate logistics infrastructure, climate vulnerabilities, and market access limitations. Conversely, it identifies opportunities, including technological integration, policy reforms, and cooperative farming models. These elements are crucial for improving the efficiency and sustainability in the logistics network. The outcomes indicate that strengthening the logistics and operations management in Himachal Pradesh’s horticulture sector requires integrated efforts involving technology adoption, policy support, and stakeholder collaboration. Further investigation is needed to examine how digital technology and new agronomic techniques affect the ability of supply networks to withstand and recover from disruptions.
