This paper presents the design and implementation of a customized and branded Web-based car rental system integrated with SMS and email notification alerts. It enables interested people from any part of the world to hire available cars online in a short time. The methodology adopted is structured system analysis and design methodology (SSADM), which uses objects throughout the software development process. The programming languages and development tools used include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MYSQL Database and JQUERY. The application system will be of benefit to public and car rental companies as it reduces errors, time wastage and other problems associated with the manual method of conducting car rental business. The expected result is an integrated online car rental system that stores customer car rental details and provides vital information about rented vehicles. The findings shed light on emerging trends and future directions in car rental business, and will be of use to policymakers and technology providers in shaping the industry’s future landscape.
As Internet-based solutions advance, investors and service operators in car rental industries worldwide have continued to embrace automation of their businesses in order to increase their revenue base and remain competitive in today’s social and business environment (Solomon, 2015).
