Curriculum Development for Lifelong Learning: Role of Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills
Abstract

The education systems worldwide, which are characterized by constant change and uncertainty, must equip students not only with knowledge but also with the skills required for lifelong learning. This paper examines how curriculum development can focus on fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills to better prepare students for the complexities and uncertainties of the modern world. Through an analysis of contemporary literature, case studies, and educational frameworks, the paper discusses the key strategies for embedding lifelong learning principles into curricula. It also highlights the role of educators in promoting these essential skills and offers actionable recommendations for integrating lifelong learning practices into education systems.

Introduction

The pace of global change, driven by technological innovation, economic shifts, and social transformation, has redefined the skills that are essential for success in the 21st century. Traditional knowledge-based education systems are no longer sufficient to prepare students for the uncertainties of the future. In this context, lifelong learning has emerged as a critical educational goal, encompassing the continuous development of skills, knowledge, and attitudes that enable individuals to adapt to evolving environments (Schleicher, 2020).
