Impact of Mobile Applications on Traveler Behavior and Preferences: An Empirical Study
Abstract

This paper seeks to understand the pattern of usage and satisfaction with mobile applications for travel-related decisions; the factors influencing users’ preference towards particular mobile applications, and the impact of technology acceptance, perceived risk, perceived trust, perceived credibility on intention to use travel-related mobile applications. The study is based on primary data and the findings reveal that users predominantly rely on mobile applications during the pre-trip planning phase, seeking personalized recommendations, authentic records, and affordable itineraries. Besides this, perceived risk and credibility significantly influence user preferences, underscoring the importance of trust and reliability in app design. User satisfaction and technology acceptance too had positive implications, indicating high level of user satisfaction. Lastly, the implications of mobile application-based tourism management are discussed comprehensively, encompassing benefits for tourists, tourism businesses, local communities, governments, travel agencies, and technology providers.

Introduction

The proliferation of Internet and growth of technology has revolutionized the tourism industry, bringing in a sea change on how people explore different tourist destinations and make their traveling decisions.
