200 MW LMZ Steam Turbine With Electro Hydraulic Governing System: A Simulation Study
Abstract

For renovation and modernization of 200 MW steam turbine generator of LMZ design operating beyond their technical life, it is necessary to replace the mechanical governors with electronic governors. As the operating philosophy of modern electronic governors is different, simulation is carried out to check the impact on dynamic performance. In this paper, mathematical modeling approach and simulation results are presented. The study confirms that the controller configuration adopted in electronic governor gives better dynamic response for disturbances normally encountered in the operation.

Introduction

The 200 MW steam turbines of LMZ design are functioning at several power stations in India like Vijayawada, Mettur, Ukai, Parli, Chandrapur, etc., for more than 30 years beyond their normal design life.
