Abstract

Exploring the Password Habits of Youth in Asia Swapan Purkait* and Souryendu Das** When it comes to discussing the responsibility of safeguarding individuals from online attacks, there is often a debate whether it belongs to technology manufacturers or end-users. In this paper, an attempt has been made to study users’ behavioral aspects on passwords, nature and tendency in Asian countries. It examines why password, which is one of the mainstays of online security, is becoming prone to cyber-attacks and why users are not taking responsibilities for themselves, even though manufacturers are proactive in their efforts to provide appropriate safeguards. Social and psychological trends of users on passwords are also analyzed, which throws light on the debatable topic of nature of passwords and their proper implementation on the user side. Keywords: Password habits, Weak password, Password awareness, Strong password, User behavior
