Smart Cities in India: Challenges Ahead The world is progressing at a rapid rate in terms of technological development, geographical expansion, standard of living, etc. At the same time, the natural resources are getting limited. This problem is much more serious in India, where there is huge population, varied socioeconomic culture, etc. Smart cities are one of the best bets to solve this problem. There are many successful implementations worldwide of this at various scales. However, India has not been able to progress on it wholeheartedly at the pace at which it should have. The paper looks at why India is still lagging behind in terms of smart city development and the challenges ahead, and takes some case studies into consideration to find out how those scenarios could be useful in the Indian context.
