Of Magic, Reality and Translation: An Interview with Arunava Sinha
Abstract

Arunava Sinha is a noted and versatile Indian translator. He has translated a vast corpus of Bengali literature into English. He has been awarded The Crossword Translation Award twice (2007, 2011), and The Muse India Translation Award (2013). He was shortlisted for The Independent Foreign Fiction Prize (2009) and has received the prestigious PEN Translation Grant (2007). Sinha is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Creative Writing Department, Ashoka University, New Delhi, India.

Introduction

The in-person interview with Sinha was conducted in Kolkata, West Bengal, on August 13, 2021. His translation of the magical realist Bengali novel Khwabnama (1996) by the Bangladeshi novelist Akhtaruzzaman Elias was published in 2021 by Penguin Random House, India.
