This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of 959 academic papers on the Global Financial Crisis, indexed in Scopus between 2008 and 2025. Using descriptive, network, and content analysis, the study maps the development of academic research across three phases: early exploration (2008- 2010), scholarly expansion (2011-2020), and recent high-impact work (2020-2025). Principal trends reveal a gradual shift away from early concentration on subprime lending and systemic failure toward later concentration on behavioral finance, macroeconomic reactions, and post-Covid-19 financial resilience. The paper identifies key authors, institutions, and countries, with major contributions from the US and western Europe. The study also highlights emerging topics such as ESG finance and fintech risk, offering valuable insights into the long-term academic influence and policy relevance as strategic implications of the 2008 crisis.
The Global Financial Crisis, symbolized by the “day after Lehman” on September 16, 2008, was a turning point when global money markets froze and a shockwave spread across factory floors, docklands, financial markets, and commodity markets all over the world.
