This paper explores the intricate and multifaceted psyche of Tagore’s Binodini in Chokher Bali, rediscovering the uniqueness of her enigmatic and dynamic character, which is often misunderstood to be appealing and seductive due to the complexity of her multilayered personality. The study employs a qualitative research methodology, conducting an in-depth literary analysis of Chokher Bali to examine the evolution of Binodini, focusing on themes of transformation, resilience, and psychological complexity. In Chokher Bali, Binodini, the central character, undergoes a series of metamorphoses, developing extraordinary mental strength, self-restraint, and psychological depth. Her actions, choices, and paths distinguish her exceptionalism from other characters. Through her actions, she shapes her destiny, establishes herself as an iconoclast, demonstrates her resilience and majesty, and influences those around her.
Prolific Nobel laureate writer Rabindranath Tagore’s psycho-sociological novel Chokher Bali’s (1903) storyline revolves around Binodini, one of the most celebrated and criticized characters Bengali literature has ever produced.
