Mapping the Intellectual Structure of Climate Finance Research: A Bibliometric Approach with Focus on Sustainability
Abstract

This study aims to compile and synthesize existing literature on sustainability and climate financing, providing a comprehensive overview of contributions in this domain. It seeks to summarize key metrics, including top journals, authors, keywords, and leading nations involved in climate finance research. The research is grounded in bibliometric analysis, which serves as a theoretical lens for evaluating the evolution of scholarship in climate financing and sustainability. An extensive scientometric review spanning 23 years was conducted using bibliometrics R software (4.1.3) for data analysis. Network analysis for keyword identification was performed with VOSviewer, utilizing Web of Science (WoS) database to extract relevant literature. The findings reveal significant trends and future research opportunities in climate finance and sustainability. The paper highlights essential metrics, guiding scholars and policymakers in understanding the landscape of this field, while identifying pertinent literature for further exploration. This study provides valuable insights for future researchers, offering a structured approach to navigating the climate finance literature and facilitating informed decision-making in policy and academia. It contributes uniquely to existing literature by presenting a comprehensive assessment of the current state of climate financing and sustainability. The keywords employed are novel, enhancing the study’s relevance and impact on future research endeavors.

Introduction

Climate finance plays a crucial role in advancing several sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations in developing countries like India. Specifically, it supports SDG 3 (good health and wellbeing) by funding healthcare infrastructure improvements, and enhancing access to medical services in underserved areas. Additionally, SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) is advanced through investments in renewable energy projects, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable energy access.
