Women entrepreneurs contribute to the economic wellbeing of their family and community, reducing poverty and creating employment opportunities. In Mizoram, more women are involved in income-generating activities than in other parts of the country, playing an important role in the development of rural areas in the state. This paper examines entrepreneurship development and empowerment of rural women in Siaha District of Mizoram, with its main focus on the income-generating activities performed by rural women, their motivational factors, and the problems faced by them. The study employed both exploratory and descriptive research designs. The exploratory design examined the significance of women’s empowerment through entrepreneurship, focusing on problems faced by women entrepreneurs, while the descriptive design analyzed motivational factors, income contribution, and economic impact. The study found that women entrepreneurs in the state are still in need of more support for their business activities, particularly with regard to business skills, market infrastructure and information, and financial assistance from government and NGOs. The findings also demonstrate that engagement in income-generating activities enhances women’s social, economic, and psychological wellbeing, contributing to their empowerment
In virtually every society, women account for nearly half of the total population, and India is no exception. Despite their significant demographic presence, women in India have historically been positioned as a vulnerable and marginalized section of society. This vulnerability is shaped by deep-rooted sociocultural norms, economic inequalities, and structural barriers that restrict their access to resources, opportunities, and decision-making power.
