Relationship Between Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles in IT Startups
Abstract

This study seeks to examine the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in shaping effective leadership styles within the IT industry in Kochi, Kerala. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected from 197 IT professionals through a structured questionnaire comprising the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ). Statistical analyses, including correlation and regression techniques, were employed to explore the relationship between EI and leadership styles. The findings indicate a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and transformational leadership, suggesting that leaders who demonstrate higher emotional competencies are more likely to engage, inspire, and motivate their teams effectively. This study bridges a gap in research within the IT sector in Kerala and provides practical insights for managers aiming to enhance leadership effectiveness through the strategic application of EI.
