What Motivates Gig Economy Workers?
Abstract

Introduction

The rise of gig economy in India is changing the nature of work for the workforce. Gig economy offers employment to deliver on-demand service by those who are willing to engage in employment based on Internet services and digital technology facilities. Gig economy can be classified as high- and low- skilled economy. The medium-to-high skilled jobs are freelancers and independent contractors. Low skilled jobs involve on demand platforms that offer physical services to complete the task on time (Pant & Majumder, 2022). A gig worker is a person who engages in income earning activities outside the traditional employer-employee relationship (Ministry of Labor and Employment 2020, Government of India).
