Cities have major problems with their emergency response systems because of traffic congestion. There is a possibility of increased death rates due to traffic congestions on busy roads since emergency response is inefficient. The existing smart traffic control systems implement devices such as RFID, Internet-of-Things (IoT) traffic control, and V2X traffic communication systems. However, these methods are costly and not suitable for poorer areas due to lack of resources. This paper introduces FastLane, a traffic clearance system on mobile platforms that can deliver emergency alerts on a fast basis. The system is based on the global positioning system (GPS) sensors, which identify nearby authorities and inform them in real-time via cloud-based communication platform. The authorities are police stations and tolls that are within specific distance ranges. It takes less than three seconds to send notifications due to the speed of communication and synchronization of the system. The cross-platform apps are developed using React Native and Node.js to powerfully deploy the system.
Due to rapid urbanization and increase in the number of vehicles, traffic congestion has become more severe, posing a great challenge to emergency response systems.
